Maria Bez

Maria Bez, a sculptor and painter born in Athens, lives and works between Athens and Barcelona.

She studied Theater Studies in the University of Athens, and Fine Arts in the University of Barcelona. In sculpture she has worked on materials such as wood, marble, clay, copper, recycled objects etc. The starting point for her paintings is drawing and sculpture.

She works as a book illustrator and also as a literary translator for Greek publishers.

She imagines worlds and creatures out of reach, secret or undiscovered. Hideouts inhabited by dissidents. Elusive beings in hidden, far away places, dark and mysterious. She often wonders if things could have gone a different way and has always been friends with creatures scorned by humans.
