Paola Idrontino
Paola Idrontino is a costume, textile, and corset designer, photographer, and sound artist based in Barcelona. Her passion for storytelling is combined with complex textile arrangements to create costumes, sculptures, and masks inspired by grotesque and otherworldly creatures. After graduating from Central Saint Martins University in London, she created a clothing and accessories brand called Papayapie, with the desire to explore new ways to highlight and dramatize the body’s natural silhouette. Her works have been exhibited at MACBA, Barcelona Design Museum, Barcelona Maritime Museum, Marine Sciences (CSIC), Museo Etnológico Barcelona, Ket Gallery, Centre Civico Barceloneta, Les Bernardes in Girona, Bikini Berlin, and Art Basel New York.
Her current exhibition ‘Breathing Waves’ at Centre d’Artesania de Catalunya is open until April 27th, 2025.
She has had the opportunity to work with Moreno Bernardi’s (Teatro Akadèmia de Barcelona), Ex Abrupto, Jana Winderen, Wonderground company, Marc Corominas, Laca Films, and Sara Brown. Her work has been published in various magazines and books, including Condé Nast Traveler, Hi-Fructose, Divers for the Environment, Vogue, Mothmeister, Elle Serbia, and Schön Magazine. Her love for absurd storytelling also translates into a sound language that reflects on alternative ways of listening.
